On March 26, 1971, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared East Pakistan, now known as Bangladesh, as an independent state. Instead, Yahya Khan launched “Operation Searchlight” to eliminate freedom fighters in East Pakistan. But the current President Yahya Khan, from West Pakistan, refused to recognize him. In 1971, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman won an election. In the 1970s, these differences came to a head. From the economy to the national language, East Pakistanis were not part of the decision-making process. Many in East Pakistan soon felt that they were being left out of important discussions. And at the time, not all were recognized. While both regions had a Muslim-majority, there were different ethnic groups. Instead, it was split into West Pakistan and East Pakistan. On this special occasion distinguished embassy officials, respected Governing bodies, respected Director, Principal, Vice-Principal, together with all faculty members and students were present.Īddressing the event, Director Lieutenant Commander Anwar Khurshid welcomed the guests and focused on the importance of the independence in any nation’s life. On this occasion, the institution holds the different event and activities like raising of National Flag with National anthem, prayer for the freedom fighters and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mojibor Rahman making of Bijoyful and cultural competition among the students.Īmbassador of Bangladesh, Ashud Ahmed, and the Chairman of the School hoisted national flag followed by the rendering national anthem. Bangladesh MHM School and College celebrated 49th Victory Day of Bangladesh with great patriotic zeal and much passion with colourful functions organised at the School premises on December 16 paying tribute to the freedom fighters who made the supreme sacrifices in the War for Independence to free the nation in 1971.
